Winners of the competition „We own the sky 2012” are known
Today, on April 26, at the awarding ceremony results of the competition „We own the sky 2012” were announced – two winners, a girl and a boy who will represent Latvia in the space camp for youth in the USA this year. Among boys Raimonds Munčs, a pupil from Daugavpils State Gymnasium, become the winner, but among girls – a pupil from Riga English Grammar School Annija Korpa.
The winner among boys Raimonds Munčs submitted for the competition a video in which he tells about space and paints accompanied by his own song. The video is distinguished with interesting technique, and the jury recognized that both the song and the video by themselves have been imprinted. In total 15 works from 14 boys have been received. Raimonds earned 109.5 out of possible 130 points.
But the winner among girls Annija Korpa submitted for the competition a model for a futuristic building “Spacescraper”. Serious work and a lot of time have been put in making the model, and the jury appreciated it. This year girls have been more active; in total 34 works from 31 girls have been received. Annija for her work earned 115 points.

For both winners everything is yet to come; the initiator of the competition the Ventspils High Technology Park after the awarding ceremony will begin to organize youth’s trip to the USA. Both youth together with Pauls Irbins, the director of Children’s Science Center Z(in)oo, will go to the USA on July 19 where in a camp with other youth from entire world will actively participate by July 27.
Also the most active school from pupils of which the most works have been received was awarded during the awarding ceremony. This year the title earned Riga State Gymnasium No. 1. The most active school received as a prize 20 free tickets to Children’s Science Center Z(in)oo that can be used according to school’s opinion, for instance, to grant the tickets to the best pupils or teachers at the end of the school year, to a particular class, or participants and winners of contests.
The competition “We own the sky 2012” is being held already for the third year in turn. The organizer of the competition the Ventspils High Technology Park hopes that it will be possible to implement this initiative also in future!
