From 22nd to 25th August was delegation of SIB Net project visiting three cities in Finland: Turku, Helsinki and Hämeenlinna. Aim of the visit was to get to know situation in finnish start-up landscape and meet key players in that field, seek out possible cooperation possibilites between organizations and find ways to promote and support start-ups in both sides of the Finnish Gulf.

During the trip following organizations were visited:

• universities in Turku (Turku University of Applied Sciences) and Hämeenlinna (Hämeenlinna University of Applied Sciences)
• science parks (Turku Science Park)
• incubators (BioTurku, Aalto Start-Up Center)
• business accelerators (BoostTurku)
• HUBs (Aalto Venture Garage ja Aalto Design Factory)
• other business development organizations (Spinno Enterprise Center, Culminatum Innovation, Potkuri, Wetterhoff Centre, Innopark Technology Centre)

Aside considering start-up support themes were under discussions also innovation policy in Finland and their experience in creating and developing succesful innovative environment, improving communication and cooperation between universities and entrepreneurs, cluster developments and other issues that concerned regional development.

Delegation was made up of representatives from Institute of Baltic Studies, Stockholms School of Economics in Riga, Ventspils University College, Ventspils High Technology Park, Riga Planning Region and from Tartu Science Park. Visit is financed from SIB Net project within Estonia-Latvia Programme and co-financed by European Regional Development Fund.
