Funding possibilities for space technology projects in Latvia

In 2010 within the project “Space Technologies – Opportunity for Education and Economic Development” the foundation Ventspils High Technology Park gathered information on funding programmes and tenders in the space technology field, which are available for Latvian organizations, companies and scientific research institutions.

Material on funding progrmmes and tenders in the space technology field  (material in pdf)*
*The material was prepared with the support of Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway`s EEA grants and Norway`s government bilateral grants, and with mediation of Society Integration Foundation, from the state of Latvia. Ventspils High Technology Park is responsible for the contents of the material.

Currently, Latvia receives almost no funding from the programmes of European Space Agency (ESA), because Latvia is only a prospective member state of the ESA. A positive exception is a competition of new scientists organized by the Ministry of Education and Science of Republic of Latvia, the aim of which is to provide ESA scholarship for 6 months and internship in ESA research centres.

Since the ESA programmes are not fully available, Latvian organizations can use other resources, for instance, the funding from themes “SPACE” and “TRANSPORT” of The Seventh Framework Programme, or to participate in tenders by claiming for orders from EUMETSAT, European Commission or NATO, or to offer their technologies to European Business Network.
