23 delegates from Latvian companies and institutes attended an international space industry conference “Broadening the Base of Europe’s Space Community” that took place in Tallinn, on February 1–3. The conference was organised within the “NordicBaltSat” project.

Both Mr. Māris Ēlerts, Deputy Director of the Investment and Development Agency, and Mrs. Dana Reizniece-Ozola, Board councillor of Ventspils High Technology Park (VHTP),  informed the conference delegates on competence and accomplishments of Latvia in space industry.

During the conference the delegates were provided with individual consultancy by representatives of European space industry. The opportunity was actively used by such Latvian organisations as Engineering Research Institute „Ventspils International Radio Astronomy Centre” of Ventspils University College, Institute of Astronomy of University of Latvia, Riga Technical University, Eventech Ltd., HHE Photonic Labs Ltd.

Among the delegates there were representatives of Baltic enterprises and institutes as well as biggest European space industry players such as EADS Astrium (Germany), Thales Alenia Space (France), OHB (Germany, Sweden) and European Space Agency which were provided with the information about the competence and knowledge of Baltic states in space industry.

The project “NordicBaltSat” is being implemented since 2010 within the European Union 7th Framework Programme. Elaboration of joint technology development programme as well as space industry promotion plan are key results of the project that allowed Latvian companies and institutes to attend seminars and to receive free consultancy by experts in order to implement space area related projects on European or a wider scale. The project contributed to stronger relationship among countries that are members of European Space Agency as well as others.
